Step by step

  1. 1.Start with square paper and fold one diagonal.

Keep the colored side facing down.

  2. 2.Fold along the diagonal to make a triangle.

Line up the corners before pressing.

  3. 3.Bring the folds together and close the piece into a small square.

    This is the preliminary base.

  4. 4.Fold the lower edges to the center line.

It starts to look like a kite.

  5. 5.Lift the front layer and flatten it into a petal.

    Open it slowly, without tearing.

  6. 6.Turn the piece over and make the same petal on the back.

Now it is the bird base.

  7. 7.Narrow both sides to the center, on both faces.

Thin legs make an elegant crane.

  8. 8.Inside-reverse fold both legs: neck and tail.

A small folded tip becomes the head.

  9. 9.Open the wings carefully.

Pull outward without forcing the middle.

  10. 10.Done! Your crane has taken flight.

A thousand cranes grant a wish.
